The Wellington Hotel celebrated it’s fifth anniversary of open mic nights today. A packed evening full of musicians came down. Some of them haven’t been for a while. Hat’s off to John Cruickshank (who funnily enough was the only one wearing a hat) for putting on the night.

This night was also a debut for a new song called “Uncharted Waters”. One of the better first performances of a song I’ve had.

Exit State’s first gig at Ramapage along with another debut with “The Saviours”. A strange choice with Hello Bamboo to kick off the start to a hilarious intro. Well… they’ve got to play with someone I guess.

I was a bit careless this gig. Unlike the previous gig where I was testing a new camera. This time I was just using my old familiar equipment and so I didn’t bother being too careful about being steady. I’m sure a few more shots would have come out sharper if I really tried. Oh well that’s punishment for being lazy.

Got an email yesterday afternoon asking me to ring up about an interview. Thing looked highly suspicious from the start (it was sent from a Yahoo address for a start!). It was something like this

I decided not to even call it in the end. The reason I though was they didn’t necessarily have my mobile number and so I didn’t want to give that away/prove my email was live. After doing a bit more research something I didn’t know that I do now. Numbers starting with 070 are not mobile numbers but could be premium rate lines (or being forwarded to premium rate numbers).

OOOOooo New Dark Tranquillity song. It’s certainly one of those more atmospheric songs eschewing any definitive strong melodies or riffs for more ambient sounds. Though I take it it’s not a single per se it still seems an odd track to release for a first impression of the new album. That said I really like it. It’s different again but there’s still Dark Tranquillity elements in there as well. Roll on the album.
